Charles Marshall

Our Founder

1940 – 2014

Industry icon Charles L. Marshall founded Marshall Hotels & Resorts in 1980, leading the company to become one of the top 25 largest management companies in the hospitality industry. With an uncanny ability to identify and solve complex problems in their earliest stages, his background included hotel and free-standing restaurant management, hotel development, receivership and turn-around expertise.

He was recognized with multiple awards for his success, including the prestigious Sheraton “Manager of the Year” and the “Distinguished Achievement Award,” which was presented by the International Franchise Association. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration and received the school’s Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Executive Leadership

Micheal P. Marshall

President & CEO

A 30-plus year hospitality veteran, Michael P. Marshall literally grew up in the hospitality industry and has worked in virtually every position within a hotel, giving him a firsthand knowledge of what it takes to make a hotel operate efficiently and profitably. During his tenure, Michael has worked at, managed, invested in and developed more than 175 properties in all segment types and price points across North America. His expertise includes virtually every major hotel brand family, ranging from luxury to limited-service, as well as boutique, non-branded hotels.

Marshall regularly speaks at the industry’s leading conferences, providing candid insights into hotel management and investment. He received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., and completed the Advanced Management Program at Cornell University. He is a member of the Cornell Society of Hoteliers.

Michael E. Getzey

Chief Operating Officer

Michael E. Getzey oversees all operational and sales and marketing aspects of Marshall Hotels & Resorts and works in tandem with the accounting and development teams. Joining Marshall in 1981, Getzey is the longest tenured member of the senior management team. He also has hands-on involvement in the oversight of all hotel operations in the company’s portfolio. Bringing a unique blend of hotel operations in conjunction with construction and real estate knowledge, he has played an integral role in acquisitions and development, including site selection.

Getzey received extensive training in hospitality and business administration at the University of New Haven, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and Widener University – Brandywine Campus. He also serves on the Wicomico County Tourism Advisory Board and the Wicomico Civic Center Commission and belongs to the Society of Fellows of The Culinary Institute of America.

Scott McMahon

Executive Vice President of Business Development

With more than 23 years of hospitality industry experience, Scott leads the company’s new growth efforts, including all aspects of new development, acquisitions and identifying prospective new owners and investors throughout the country. McMahon also plays a key role in fostering new joint venture opportunities, coordinating third-party management agreements, improving owner relations, working with lenders, brokers, franchise development leaders and assisting clients on hotel sales, site selection, financing and new build developments. Since joining the company in 2002, Scott has negotiated and executed close to 200 management agreements for the firm including numerous hotels in the top MSA markets on the east coast.

Prior to joining Marshall Hotels & Resort, Inc., Scott was with US Franchise Systems Inc., where he received numerous Salesman of the Year awards and was named USFS All-Star every year while with the company. He holds a degree in Consumer Economics from the University of Maryland.

Randy Griffin

Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing

An award-winning sales and marketing leader with more than 35 years of seasoned experience, Griffin conceives and implements high impact growth strategies on behalf of MH&R. Additionally, he oversees the company’s current sales and marketing team while playing a key role creating a professional approach to marketing strategies and boosting annual revenues. His previous experience includes a decade-long career as vice president of sales at Marriott International Global Sales Organization, as well as regional director of sales and marketing positions for the Marriott Renaissance Hotels and Resorts and the Marriott Eden Roc Renaissance Resort and Spa, as well as director of sales and marketing for other Sheraton branded and independent hotels.

During his tenure, Griffin’s accolades have included, “Sales and Marketing Activation Awards Marriott, International 2011,” “Property and Sales Leader Marriott International 2006,” “Executive of the Year Continental Companies, 1996” and “Director of Sales of the Year Sheraton Design Center, 1994.” He graduated from the North Carolina State University with a BS in Business Administration.

David Harvill

Executive Vice President of Finance

A 25-plus year hospitality veteran, Harvill brings valuable property, regional and corporate level experience from several respected hotel companies and privately held hotel ownership, management and consultancy groups. In his current role, he is responsible for the entire accounting discipline for MH&C’s property operations, training, audit, information technology and consulting. Prior to joining the company, he held a variety of industry finance positions, including property controller, area controller, regional controller and assistant corporate controller.

Harvill attended the University of Northern Colorado and has a degree from Tompkins College.
